Comparative Private Law

Prof. Heiss: Tuesday, 14:00-16:00 p.m. in KOL-E-21

Prof. Babusiaux / Prof.Scarso: Monday, 16:15-18:00 p.m. in KOL-G-209 

The course will introduce students to contemporary concepts and methods of comparative law. It will illustrate the functions of comparative law by examples taken from various systems of law as well as sources of uniform law.

The course will start with a general introduction to comparative private law held by Professor Heiss; Professor Babusiaux and Professor Scarso will then deal with different controversial topics of contract; at last, Professor Babusiaux will give an overview on comparative tort law.

Please mind that the course taught by Professor Heiss will be held on Tuesday (14-16 p.m.), whereas the course taught by Professor Babusiaux and Professor Scarso will be given on Monday afternoon (16-18 p.m.) Please mind also that Professor Babusiaux and Professor Scarso will take turns within the schedule.

At the beginning of the autumn term (Herbstsemester 2014) a textbook will be available at the “Studentenladen”.

The textbook will contain teaching material and further readings. It is highly recommended to purchase the book and to bring it with you when attending the course.
