Changes to the "Guidelines Recognition and Transfer of Credits"

From August 1, 2024, all recognizable credits from non-Swiss universities will be recognized and credited with "passed". Students who submit a request for recognition (Anerkennungsgesuch) between August 1, 2024 and October 31, 2024 can choose whether the modules to be recognized should be recognized with a grade or with "passed". The decisive factor is the time of receipt of the request for recognition.

The Recognition of the Bachelor's module International Public Law/European Law has been excluded since August 1, 2024 if it was completed as part of a summer or winter school. The recognition of Summer/Winter Schools as International Public Law/European Law, which were successfully completed up to and including July 31, 2024, remains possible.

Information on further changes in the area of recognition can be found under Recognition and Transfer of Credit.

You are planning to attend a summer/winter school in Switzerland or abroad and would like to clarify whether the corresponding credits can be recognized for your studies at the Faculty of Law of the University of Zurich (RWF UZH), or would like to have these credits recognized.
Summer/winter schools are self-organized short stays, the organization of which (research and timely registration, etc.) is the responsibility of the students.
Please note: From HS 23 onwards, it is only possible to complete the Summer/Winter Schools in the Bachelor's degree program if the assessment level has been fully completed in the previous semester. This means that if all requirements are met, summer/winter schools can be recognized in the following semester if they begin on 1 August (autumn semester) or 1 February (spring semester) at the earliest.
Bachelor's students who have earned at least 150 ECTS credits at the Faculty of Law in the previous semester (including recognized law modules from other universities) can bring forward summer/winter schools for the Master's program. This means that if all requirements are met, summer/winter schools can be recognized in the following semester if they begin on 1 August (autumn semester) or 1 February (spring semester) at the earliest.

Procedure

Summer/Winter Schools are recognized in three steps.

  1. Clarification of eligibility for recognition of the Summer/Winter School: Consult the published recognition table (PDF, 102 KB) before registering for the Summer/Winter School. This is not exhaustive and is updated on an ongoing basis. If you are planning to attend a summer/winter school that is not listed in the recognition table, you can use the contact form to find out whether it can be recognized.

  2. Application for recognition: After completing the summer/winter school, you can apply for recognition of the summer/winter school using the contact form. Please enclose the certificate of the completed Summer/Winter School.
  3. Notification of recognition: After the Summer/Winter School has been recognized, you will receive a notification from the Student Center. The recognized achievements can then be viewed in the student portal or in the UZH now app.

Timing

We recommend that you submit the application for recognition immediately after completing the Summer/Winter School. The processing time is approximately two weeks.
